Throughout the College, opportunities are created for our students to develop soft skills and to become enlightened in respect of the plethora of opportunities available beyond schooling at De La Salle. Our program of Personal, Social and Health Education develops an understanding of managing personal finances, interview technique, how to work effectively as part of a team, developing relations in both work and social contexts, raising a family amongst many other aspects of daily adolescent and adult life, to name but a few life skills. All students at the end of Year 10 take part in the Island’s Project Trident scheme, and we support and encourage our sixth formers to gain work experience and enhance the curriculum vitae. Sixth Form students enjoy a wide variety of personal challenge and life enhancing opportunities including Young Enterprise and World Challenge.
We exploit our excellent links in the wider community, through our Alumni, our current parent body and the positive relations that we nurture and maintain with local business, charity and service providers, to provide ongoing networking opportunities and talks to inspire our students. De La Salle students enjoy success in applying to study towards university degrees and vocational qualifications, or in securing jobs with local firms. We provide careful guidance prior to choosing options for both GCSE and Sixth Form study in order to ensure students can fulfil their ambitions.
The vast majority of our Sixth Form leavers continue into Higher Education in the UK, although there is a growing trend for students to remain on-island to attain a degree or other professional qualification. We have fostered an excellent relationship with the Russell Group Universities and also provide outstanding support for students applying to study elsewhere, including the USA and other European countries, and for those accessing local financial establishments who offer work placements combined with Higher Education.
