Charity and Fundraising

Charity is the cement which binds communities to God and persons to one another.

St. Vincent de Paul

Rooted in our Catholic faith, we seek to nurture in every student a deep awareness of the needs of others and a lifelong commitment to service. As a Lasallian school, we are guided by the values of faith, service and communion, believing that true charity is lived out through compassionate action, solidarity with the poor and respect for the dignity of every person.

Across both our Primary and Secondary phases, we are proud of the balance we achieve in placing service at the heart of our charitable work. In keeping with Catholic Social Teaching and the Lasallian call to “touch hearts”, our focus prioritises meaningful engagement, community service and advocacy for those in need over simply raising funds. Through this approach, students come to understand charity not as something done for others, but with others, in a spirit of humility and love.

Our Secondary students play a leading role through the student-led Charities Committee, which reflects our commitment to pupil voice, responsibility and leadership in service. The Committee prayerfully selects and works alongside local and international charities, meeting regularly throughout the year to coordinate fundraising and awareness initiatives. Through this work, students develop strong relationships with charitable partners while growing in key Lasallian virtues such as stewardship, collaboration, creativity and integrity. The process encourages thoughtful decision‑making and a developing sense of justice, equipping students with valuable life skills grounded in faith.

Charity and service are also at the core of our House system, where a strong sense of belonging builds an outward‑looking community spirit. Our House and Form groups embrace opportunities to serve others as an expression of our shared faith and commitment to the common good. Events such as our annual House Charity Weeks, culminating in a non‑uniform day, and our much‑loved De La Salle Island Walk — now proudly exceeding 60 years of tradition — bring the whole school community together in joyful service, prayerful reflection and generosity.

In the Sixth Form, students further deepen their commitment to service through the Leavening Project, a distinctive programme that embodies the Gospel call to be “leaven in the world”. Through sustained engagement with local organisations and vulnerable groups, students are challenged to reflect on issues of social justice, inequality and responsibility in the light of Catholic Social Teaching. The project encourages young adults to recognise their potential to make a positive difference beyond the school gates, fostering leadership, compassion and a faith that is active and lived. It is a powerful expression of our Lasallian mission to prepare students not only for academic success, but for a life of service to others.

Over many years, our school community has supported a wide range of charitable causes that reflect our mission to serve those most in need. These include Jersey Hospice, Make‑A‑Wish UK, Mont à l’Abbé School, Cancer Research UK, the Catherine Turner Memorial Scholarship for Overseas Students, and Jersey Women’s Refuge, among many others. Through these partnerships, our students are encouraged to recognise Christ in others and to live out the Gospel message through action, compassion and service to the wider world.

I have chosen De La Salle because of [the school’s] focus on helping others. The boys we have met from De La Salle are always kind, well-mannered and caring.
