Charity and Fundraising

Our organisation seeks to foster amongst our students an awareness of the needs of others, and an ethos of charitable works in the service of others. We are proud of the balance that we achieve in both Primary and Secondary school of ensuring the charitable work undertaken focuses on the importance of serving the community and helping those in need as a priority over simply asking for monetary donations.

Our secondary students actively run a Charities Committee, responsible for choosing, coordinating with and raising money for worthy local and international causes. The Committee meets regularly throughout each term and the students involved develop an excellent professional relationship with the charitable causes that they work with. Generating ideas on how best to support any given charity requires creativity and a degree of business acumen, which contributes to the school’s focus on soft-skill development.

Charity and fundraising also remains at the core of the life and purpose of our Houses; the community spirit engendered by our House and Form groups is intentionally outward looking, and our students value the opportunity to contribute to wider local and international causes. Events including our House Charity weeks (culminating in a non-uniform day) and our celebrated De La Salle Island Walk, which is now surpassing 60 successful years, are all dedicated to raising awareness and supporting the needs of others.

Over the years, a wide range of causes have been supported, including Jersey Hospice, Make A Wish UK, Mont à l’Abbé school, Cancer Research UK, the Catherine Turner Memorial Scholarship for Overseas Students, Jersey Women’s Refuge, to name but a few.

I have chosen De La Salle because of [the school’s] focus on helping others. The boys we have met from De La Salle are always kind, well-mannered and caring.
