De La Salle’s curriculum throughout both Primary and Secondary provides a continuum of diverse and deepening learning. While our emphasis evolves appropriately with each age group, the common thread is that we seek engagement, wonder, exploration, discovery and innovation; we have an infectious passion for learning!
The Foundation Stage covers children’s learning from the age of three to the end of Reception Year. The Early Years Foundation Stage “Development Matters” curriculum has been divided into sections based on;
Children in these key stages follow the National Curriculum (Jersey). This ensures that they are taught a broad range of subjects while developing essential Literacy and Numeracy skills from an early age. Our school values and prioritises learning which fosters creativity and gives teachers discretion to use the best methods to inspire in all pupils a joy and commitment to learning that will last a lifetime. We provide specialist teaching for specific curriculum areas, such as Music, French and PE, and many of these are taught in the specialist facilities available on the main College campus.
Year 6 boys are able to take full advantage of the opportunities that our College provides. They spend 50% of their learning time in Primary, developing their learning and leadership skills in familiar surroundings, and the other 50% of their learning utilising the specialist facilities and staff at the secondary school – from science in the labs to art and design technology in the studios and workshops. Our boys enjoy excellent opportunities to extend their skills, and Year 6 acts as a great springboard into learning Key Stage 3 learning from Year 7 onwards – the best of both worlds!
